Listen before you compare packages
Ask to hear real mixes. Smooth transitions across genres reveal more than a playlist screenshot. For a diverse Boston wedding, listen for whether the DJ can connect generations and cultures without making the set feel random.
Meet the person who will actually lead your event. Their communication style will shape introductions, formalities, requests, and the tone of the reception.
- Who will personally DJ and MC?
- Can you hear real mixes?
- How are guest requests handled?
- Can hosting be low-key, energetic, or bilingual?
Ask about preparation, not only performance
Confirm insurance, backup equipment, staffing, setup time, and the planning system. A venue may require a certificate of insurance, specific load-in windows, sound limits, or separate systems for ceremony and cocktails.
Your proposal should explain coverage, enhancements, travel considerations, staffing, and what reserves the date.
Choose the fit, not the loudest promise
The right DJ listens carefully, asks about your families, and explains what is realistic for the room. Confidence should feel calm and specific.
Reviews, venue experience, and professional partnerships are valuable, but the final decision should be based on trust: do you believe this team will represent you well when the timeline changes and the room needs a decision?
